AS Roma want to sell Felix Afena-Gyan and sign an experienced striker

AS Roma are keen to sell youngster Felix Afena-Gyan and bring in an experienced forward to bolster their attacking department this season, according to reports in Italy.

Roma have contacted 28-year-old Italy international Andrea Belotti, who is keen on a move to the Italian capital but the Europa Conference League winners need to clear an attacking slot.

And Afena-Gyan is the player they decided to sell. Initially, they were ready to loan the forward but now they prefer to sell him.

Cremonese is said to be leading the race to sign the Ghanaian international.

The Serie A newcomers are pushing to sign Afena-Gyan, who has also been linked with Cagliari and Salernitana.

As the transfer window draws to a close, Roma are trying to secure a deal for Afena-Gyan.

Managing director Tiago Pinto is meeting with agents and club representatives in Milan, including Salernitana and Cremonese, who are both interested in the 19-year-old striker and are said to be open to signing him on a permanent basis.

According to Tuttosport, Cremonese are currently leading the race having put forward a more convincing offer than Salernitana.

Further developments are expected in the coming days as Pinto negotiates the Ghana international’s departure.

The 19-year-old was unused by Mourinho in Roma’s first game of the season which they won 1-0 against Salernitana.

Afena-Gyan enjoyed a breakthrough season last year when he was promoted to the first team by Mourinho.

He made his Serie A debut against Cagliari in November 2022, before scoring his first two goals in the win over Genoa.

Afena-Gyan signed a contract with Roma in July until 2026.
