Barcelona attempt to move Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid amid Manchester United interest
Barcelona are trying to move Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid amid interest from Manchester United. The Blaugrana are looking to complete a deal worth £22m for the 2018 World Cup winner, according to Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun).
Griezmann joins Los Rojiblancos on loan from Barcelona last summer. Atletico are set to pay the Catalan giants £35million for the France international if he were to play 50 per cent of game time during his time in Madrid.
However, Diego Simeone’s side only deployed Griezmann after the hour mark of the 2022/23 campaign. The French international had to settle for a place on the bench this season.
Griezmann has featured in all Atletico games this season. In eight appearances, the 31-year-old has scored three goals and provided one assist. However, the France international has only started once for Los Colchoneros, and that was against Real Madrid.
The 31-year-old was annoyed by his situation. And that’s where the Red Devils come in. Erik ten Hag plans to make a move for the France international in the January transfer window in case there is no change when it comes to the striker’s playing time.
Barcelona are looking to cut their losses and settle a much lower fee with Atletico. The Blaugrana want the deal to be finalized before January 7.
United have apparently been looking to strengthen their forward line. During the recent transfer window, the Red Devils only made one signing up front. Antony reunited with Ten Hag in Manchester.
Fans would always like the offense to have more bite. Griezmann is someone who has made a name for himself over the years. Although the French national hasn’t been at his best lately, he still has plenty of quality. It remains to be seen whether United will land the 31-year-old.

A good World Cup with France can also raise his stock. Griezmann recently started in France’s 2-0 UEFA Nations League win over Austria at the Stade de France.
