GURUGRAM: Girdhari Lal Sehgal and his wife Seema bought a 420 square meter plot of land from Sushant Lok-1 in 1991. He died in 2016.
Three years later, a man posing as him allegedly walked into Gurugram tehsil’s office to transfer the land to his non-existent son, who in turn sold the property to another person some time later. The buyer took out a loan of Rs 4 crore on the property. When it defaulted, the finance company that issued the loan claimed ownership of the property. During this time, the Sehgal family was unaware of these transactions.
On October 3 of this year, Sumit, Girdhari and Seema’s only child, visited the land and saw a sign affixed to it indicating that the land had been mortgaged to a finance company. âMy son called the cell phone number mentioned on the board and a company representative informed him that my husband had transferred the property to his ‘son’ Ajay Sehgal in 2019. Ajay then sold it to a other person, who took out a loan and failed to repay it, âsaid Seema (70), who lives in Vipul Belmonte in Sector 53.
She added that after her husband died in 2016, she became the sole owner of the property. âWe were shocked when we learned of the fraud because Sumit is my only child. How can my husband transfer ownership to a nonexistent son three years after his death? Through newspaper articles, we learned that a gang has committed several frauds of a similar nature, âshe added.
“The land has been in my possession all these years and I have been paying maintenance fees to the earlier maintenance company and Sushant Lok RWA on a regular basis since January 2019. I am also in possession of all original documents for this property.” , she said. said further.
Based on his complaint, a case was registered under Articles 419 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (deception), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery of document), 471 (use of forged document) and IPC 120B (criminal association) at Sushant Lok Police Station on Friday. âWe have recorded one case. The case is under investigation, âsaid police spokesman Subhash Boken.
In the past two years, a dozen such cases have been recorded in the police stations of Sushant Lok and Palam Vihar. Gurugram police have formed a special investigation team to investigate these cases. A few gang members were also arrested.
